In the slammer - opening up the justice system in Scarborough!
Scarborough’s historic Dean Road Prison is throwing open its doors on Thursday, 15 October as part of Inside Justice season in North Yorkshire.
The Victorian prison is usually closed to the public, but following on from last year’s successful event, permission has again been granted to open this magnificent Grade II building to the public.
Local criminal justice agencies from around Scarborough will be coming together to give presentations throughout the day in the form of workshops.
Due to huge demand last year, members of the public interested in attending MUST register their place in advance.
Three afternoon sessions are being held– at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.
Visitors will have the chance to hear presentations and speak to representatives of Her Majesty’s Courts Service, the Crown Prosecution Service, North Yorkshire Police, the Youth Justice Service, the borough council community safety team, the Probation Service and the Prison Service.
The event is being held as part of Inside Justice Season which runs throughout October in North Yorkshire, and the morning session will see school children from across Scarborough visit the prison to visit the cells and take part in the workshops and hear presentations.
Places for the afternoon sessions MUST be booked in advance. Places are limited to 30 per hourly time slot. All bookings for this free event must be received no later than Wednesday 14th October 2009.
To book a place, e-mail safer.communities@scarborough.gov.uk or call 01723 232326.
